The Arenal Volcano is one of the active volcanos in Costa Rica. It is located in the provinces of Guanacaste and Alajuela, and it has a height of 1.657 meters. The volcano is located within the Arenal Volcano National Park. The Arenal Volcano was last active in 1968. Since that time the volcano has a constant eruption of water vapor and gases, with some explosions with pyroclastic material emissions, and sometimes strong rumbles.
The area of La Fortuna is very well known for its hot springs and volcanic activity. These waters are famous for their curative and cosmetic properties, since they have a wide variety of minerals and trace elements. With a perfect conical shape, the Arenal Volcano is in constant activity, and small eruptions create a breathtaking spectacle that can be seen mostly at night with red hot rock eruptin out of its cone. The Laguna del Arenal, with an area of 200 hectares and a depth of 66 meters, was created to produce electricity, but it is also the scene of tournaments windsurfing, boating, kayak, and sport fishing.
