On October 25, there was a public city hike to collect funds for the Foundation against mammal cancer, called Caminata por la Vida. It took place in the city of San Jose, Costa Rica, from Paseo Colon to Plaza de la Democracia, and there was a lot of people united for this purpose. It was truly a big event that finish with numerous concerts and the presentation of TV personalities. The activity was promoted by Avon.

The Transat Jacques Vabre 2009, a trans-Atlantic boat race where around 30 ships from different European countries will compete to cross half the world. Costa Rica will be the last stop for these competitors, and the country is expecting roughly 15.000 spectators on the Caribbean coast. Osa Peninsula, located on the south part of Puntarenas Province (Pacific side) is home of Corcovado National Park and other smaller reserves created to protect the intense biodiversity of the area. In order to promote a culture of peace in different nations, Costa Rica will host the Fourth Summit of the Global Alliance for Ministries and Departments of Peace "Building Bridges for Peace", which will take place from 17 to 21 September. With this model, Costa Rica joins Nepal and the Solomon Islands to be the third country worldwide to establish a governmental infrastructure for peace and the first to do it without the existence of an armed conflict. Representatives of government and different ministries will be part in the opening ceremony to be held at the National Auditorium of the Museum of Children, on Thursday 17 September at 7 pm.
