Guapiles is a town situated in the northern foothills of the Cordillera Central. It is the commercial , banking and social center for the banana farmers around Limon area. It has numerous schools and colleges as well as a university and higher education institutions both public and private. It is the heart of a  growing farming and ranching region and organizes cattle fairs such as ExpoPococí Fair, one of the most important country in the area of livestock. Pococí es el primer centro de actividad económica de la provincia de Limón. Agricultural development has grown in recent years for the production of large plantations of yams, sweet potato, pineapple, rice, among others. The farming area corresponds to 90% of the area. 

 

Guapiles is close to many small ecological Reserves, which make the town interesting for visitors who would like to explore the immense biodiversity of the Santa Clara plains and the eco-tourism lodges around the area. It is also a pass through town for all tourists who go to the Caribbean beaches.
