Limon province was founded in 1870 as a banana exportation port. Limon economic activities include banana, pineapple, pejibaye, cocoa, plantain and bamboo, among others. It population has a mixture of cultures afro Caribbean, indigenous, Chinese and European, which give an unique gastronomy and language; an English Creole and Spanish are spoken in the province.
